Education starts early: nurseries for children under three can have a maths or language focus, and kindergartens take children from three to five or six. The international school on Phuket runs a strong kindergarten where children learn reading, writing, numbers, art and English — all staff speak English, so children are fully immersed.
Students come from many countries, and lessons and communication are strictly in English. Newcomers for whom English is not a first language are supported carefully: they may start with intensive English and join other subjects as their level grows, sometimes with an English teacher accompanying them in class. Regents International School Pattaya, which has links with a leading New York conservatoire, prepares students for universities in the UK, US and Canada.
